{"id":1293,"date":"2014-09-30T13:17:58","date_gmt":"2014-09-30T18:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/?p=1293"},"modified":"2014-09-30T20:16:47","modified_gmt":"2014-10-01T01:16:47","slug":"winter-power-fuels-consumption-sensitivities-gas-coal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/30\/winter-power-fuels-consumption-sensitivities-gas-coal\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter Power Fuels Consumption Sensitivities (Gas &#038; Coal)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As noted in <a href=\"https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/10\/2014-2015-winter-natural-gas-demand-expectations\/\">my previous write up,<\/a>\u00a0we could see a record amount of natural gas demand in the power sector if certain stars align.\u00a0\u00a0 One of the major drivers is the price of natural gas.\u00a0 The two price components for natural gas is the benchmark location of Henry Hub price and the basis (price differential to Henry Hub). \u00a0 In this Winter Power Outlook report, we ran over 50 cases.\u00a0 Our gas price sensitivities included changing Henry Hub (28 sensitivities) and then just changing basis prices (10 sensitivities).\u00a0 The below figure is a redacted output from the report.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/winergasvshenry.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1297\" title=\"winergasvshenry\" src=\"https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/winergasvshenry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"493\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/winergasvshenry.jpg 493w, https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/winergasvshenry-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 493px) 100vw, 493px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For this winter, the correlation with Henry Hub price and power natural gas demand is very linear. \u00a0 With the purchase of this report for only $3000, you will get the data and the associated linear equation.\u00a0 This will give you grounds to estimate the power markets natural gas demand as a function of your expectations of Henry Hub.<\/p>\n<p>Changing the price of Henry Hub also altered the coal demand.\u00a0 The redacted figure below shows the relationship of coal demand and Henry Hub.\u00a0 As in the natural gas demand figure, the coal demand outlook is very linear with the changing Henry Hub price.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/wintercoalvshenry.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1295\" title=\"wintercoalvshenry\" src=\"https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/wintercoalvshenry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"493\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/wintercoalvshenry.jpg 493w, https:\/\/allenergyconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/wintercoalvshenry-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 493px) 100vw, 493px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Changing basis by a set percentage from 50% to 150% did not significantly alter the gas demand.\u00a0\u00a0 The basis impact altered gas demand by +\/-2%.\u00a0 However, power prices did significantly change.\u00a0 In the Nepool region, the basis sensitivities produced nearly a +\/-30% swing in on-peak power prices &#8211; see below figure.\u00a0\u00a0 The winter report will contain price output for all major power hubs in N.
